Southside AllClean
We are an ethical cleaning service with a mission to provide the highest standard of cleaning and hygiene in domestic and commercial spaces.
We are some visual artists who decided to start an ethical sustainable cleaning business. The idea grew from seeing how many talented artists had to work long hours for a minimum wage with little time to sustain their practice and themselves. Often this circumstance lead to artists having to choose to abandon their arts practices when they get to points in their lives where they would like to have some more stability.
Going to art school was an enriching and privileged experience but we feel there is a need to approach different ways to sustain and share the creativity we started exploring in this settings. It is our conviction that creative expressions which are not market driven are fundamental to our community and culture's well being. We are also of the opinion that these kinds of practices would be richer if they were maintained by a wide range of artists in from different age groups and walks of life.
For this reason we started SAC. Our aim to provide a self-supportive economic framework for the artist community by providing work which is paid well enough to be able spend a significant part of ones working hours in the studio. The goal is to spend 50% in the studio and 50% with cleaning. We also aim to be flexible in terms of scheduling in order to give opportunity for time off to enable visits to residencies, intensive exhibition work or other professional development.
The cleaning is the working arm of our activities. As SAC grows we also aim provide professional development opportunities, research and workshops for artists exploring possibilities to transform the way we work and operate the larger community.
Inline with a community interest company structures (we are not yet constituted) all profits are invested in paying the people who work for SAC or will be reinvested to the benefit of the community we serve. The economic model is transferable to other kinds of businesses and are a way forward to keep profits circulating in local communities for the interest of those who generate them through their labour and their peers.
All of our co-workers are trained to high standards. As visual artists we are used to paying attention to detail and problem solving and you can read more about how these come to use on our service page.
